Yep like everyone said start with what you can afford keep it for awhile and learn from your first boat on how you would better set things up before you spend a whole lot of money.

Thanks for the info fellas...the website was very helpful too! I'm going to have to agree on the aluminum frame though, Seems like you can just build on to it with the same alloy and not add too much weight at the same time. The platform, lights, and generator alone will throw off the original boat specs (of any boat).

i unfortunatly dont have a boat but im very interested in a sea ark 1872. very good sized baot.

almost anything will work....but flat bottom or mod v hulls would work best and aluminum would be the best IMO. and far as size it depends on how many people you are planning to fish out of it and what your planning on doing with it....the width of the boat also plays a big factor....the smaller narrower boats wont hold as much weight and wont be as stable...but will work you just need to be aware of the weight limits and capabilities of the boat.....theres boats sunk every year in this sport from people overloading them....just something to think about...but like i said before almost any boat will get you out there.....just make sure you keep in mind the limitations of your boat

I personally started with a 1542 flat bottom john boat then got a 1750 tracker boat mod v and i just bought an 1860 mod v last week (all have been aluminum)

I think everyone starts out with either what they have for a boat or what they can afford. We are converting an old tri hull with a 35 horse chrysler motor. Will have a motor guide 54 electric motor and lights from home depot.

What do people normally use to start out with for a bowfishing rig? Is 14ft too small...metal...fiberglass ext.
